ABOUT

Who am I?

Hi, I'm Ted Jackson.

A long, long time ago, I was a 25 year old, alcoholic, smoker; obese, idle and a truly loathsome individual.(think John Belushi in Animal House) A useless husband and a terrible father. With numerous car wrecks, nights in local constabularies, and the odd black eye, I was hardly living the dream.

Two months of “professional help” at the end of 1999, twenty sober years since and life has changed. And boy has it changed..! Now I'm a father of four (the kids even quite like me), I have been an Opera singer with the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra, Teacher and Mentor, Extreme Event addict, Fundraiser Extraordinaire and, fabulous husband.

My notable achievements since my renaissance include singing to thousands as Principal Tenor with the RPCO, Cycling the entire Tour de France in 2006, completing Ironman UK in under 17 hours (but coming last!), leading the North Pole Marathon for 17 seconds (completing in 9 hours at minus 40 degrees!), appearing on TV,  completing the Marathon Des Sables (250km race through the Sahara desert) and a particular high point for me was completing 7 marathons on 7 continents in 7 days in the first ever World Marathon Challenge.

I have raised over £200,000 for Overcoming MS, a small charity which has had a big impact on my life since Sophie, my long-suffering wife and childhood sweetheart, was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2009.

It hasn't all been plain sailing and I have met my fair share of disaster as well as triumph over the years. Being rescued by helicopter from the Atlantic ocean after a failed bid to break the record for rowing from Europe to Barbados comes to mind. BUT… if at first you don’t succeed…. I recently (May 2021) just put that beast to bed and completed an Atlantic Row in 42 days.

In reality I am just an ordinary man who has done some extraordinary things in some people's eyes. The stuff above is just stuff and without purpose had no meaning and I had little clarity around life and what it was all about. A few years ago I reached a low point, could barely function and was dead on the inside. To the observer I appeared fine. I functioned relatively well but was simply going through the motions of day to day existence. I was in a very dark space. I had to take action and one of the best things I did in my entire life was to get myself a coach. That man worked with me to turn my life around and in a very short space of time I learned how to live life. That is what has brought me to here, talking to you, and if you're reading this and any of it resonates with you then you're in the right place and I am here to help.

Some things have not changed, I still challenge the scales at around fifteen stone and Mehmet, the local Kebab van owner, is a close friend. However, these days I have a choice in how I behave and, more often than not I make better choices and I spend my time guiding others to make the best choice for them. I look forward to doing the best I can to help you do the best you can.
